Reading Corner

Dear Eyler Families,

In an effort to help you support your child’s reading at home we wantedto share a website that will help you to determine books that are theright fit for your student. Your child is assessed three times per yearusing the NWEA test. This test provides the students ‘Lexile Level’as a reading level. There are many types of reading levels you may befamiliar with, such as Fountas and Pinnel, Reading Counts, AcceleratedReader, and Rigby. They all use different systems, be it number orletter, to provide a measure of a student’s reading ability. The CommonCore State Standards recognize Lexile levels as the preferred reading leveling system.

The "Lexile" website is a very user-friendlysite we wanted to make you aware of to assist your child in selectingbooks to read that are the right fit. On this site you can work withyour child to generate a book list tailored to their ability andinterest level, which you can then bring to your local library orbookstore to find great books that your child wants to read!

Step 1 - Once you are in the "Lexile" website, input your child’s lexile range in the minimum and maximum fields onthe home page.  If you do not have this information from an NWEA reporthandy, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher and they canquickly and easily retrieve that information for you!

Step 2 - Allows you and your child to select all of their interests and preferred reading genres.

Step 3 – Click ‘submit’ and your book list will be generated according to level and interest.
